Gunther studied mechanical engineering, starting in Stellenbosch University and then completing his Degree Dipl.-Ing (FH) in Munich.
After that he worked for DEKRA, based in Munich and Stuttgart for 13 years first as test engineer then as an expert advisor in various commitees in the German traffic ministry.

In this position he worked on expert panels of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, the EU and the Federal Government of Germany advising on topics of vehicle safety, periodic vehicle testing, technical requirements and brake systems.

While principal at DEKRA Consulting he headed the team responsible for product and service quality, consulting for many OEMs, Importers and workshop franchises on (amongst other topics) service process, quality testing in dealerships and implementation of quality standard audits based on the then new European Block Exemption Regulation (what we now refer to as Right 2 Repair).

In 2008 he started German Autoworks, independent workshop with 4 branches in Cape Town.
